International Students

Bedstone is a British boarding school for boys and girls 8 to 18. As a small school, we are capable of focusing our energies on every single student individually to bring out the best in each of them. With strong support services and small class sizes, students usually exceed their expectations – in the classroom and beyond.

Many of our International students are highly talented academics and gain places at the UK’s top Universities. In recent years these have included both Oxford and Cambridge.

Results 2023 A levels

Overall Bedstone students achieved 22% A*/A results at A-level.

Bedstone Court is set in the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire only 90 minutes from Birmingham and three hours from London Heathrow. Airport transfers to and from Bedstone are included in the fees.

The countryside lends itself to outdoor sporting and extra-curricular activities. The sports hall caters for Basketball and indoor football; there is also a heated swimming pool, well-equipped gym and dance studio. There are no exeat weekends and trips and activities are organised for every weekend making this a perfect place for International Boarders.

Bedstone has recently attracted students from 16 different countries worldwide, with no one nation dominating. This diversity guarantees that students are fully immersed in a British boarding school environment where English is most definitely the common language.

The English as an Additional Language (EAL) Department provides excellent support for all our International Students. This support helps them to make progress inside, and outside, the classroom as well as preparing them for IELTS examinations to qualify them for UK Universities. Bedstone is delighted to have a number of fluent non-english language speaking staff members.

Short Courses

The Court 6th Form is delighted to receive students for courses shorter than the the full two years. One term and one year stays are both catered for with bespoke programmes to provide both English language tuition and a holistic curriculum. One year students will be encouraged to take AS examinations prior to their return home.

How to Apply

In the first instance, please contact the marketing and admissions team by email [email protected] or by telephone on 0044 1547 530961. The admissions office is open throughout the year and there is no cut-off date for applications. You should allow three months before your start time as visa applications can take this long to process.

Applicants for the 6th form will take our own entrance exams, as well as being interviewed by a panel of Senior School Staff. We would prefer to meet applicants in person, ideally during a tour of the School.  If this is not possible, then we would conduct an interview via Zoom or MS Teams.

All applicants should be registered with us before sitting the examinations. Please fill in the form by clicking on the link (above) and one of the admissions team will be in touch.

Offers are conditional on an applicant achieving the equivalent of 6 grades of B or above at GCSE level as well as a satisfactory school report and reference.

EAL (English as an Additional Language) Support

We expect a reasonable level of English but also offer significant EAL support. Those joining us for A Levels typically have the equivalent of IELTS level 5.0 or above. We have a full induction programme, with concentrated English at first, to ensure a smooth transition to life at Bedstone. We realise it can be quite a culture shock at first and so spend several days with new international boarders, before the other students arrive, getting used to the campus, food and rules – and getting over jetlag!

Visa Support

Every young person looking to enter Bedstone College from outside of the UK will need a visa, unless they have a British passport.

Bedstone’s Admissions Team are here to help and, upon receipt of the appropriate acceptance and registration forms and fees, issue the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) that you will need to produce when applying for your visa. Bedstone College is a Tier 4 sponsor – i.e. has been approved by the UK  authorities to teach those who come to the UK to study.

From 1 January 2021, all international students, including those from Europe coming to study in the UK, will need to apply through the Student route before coming to the country. Most EU citizens will complete their application online, while non-EU citizens will continue to go to Visa Application Centres (VACs) to enrol their biometrics.
